AUCKLAND: Highlights of the first innings of Tuesday's World Cup semi-final between New Zealand and South Africa at Eden Park, Auckland (reduced to 43 overs due to rain):

Drama at the toss

- Matt Henry, 23, had been playing regional cricket for Canterbury in front of a handful of people before he was called into the New Zealand squad as cover for injured Adam Milne. He was then named in the team on the back of a domestic record of 21 ODI wickets at 15.42.

Kyle Abbott was replaced by fellow seamer Vernon Philander in the South Africa team despite taking nine wickets in the tournament.

Boult out of the blue

- Trent Boult dropped the ball on his run-in for his first delivery, saw Luke Ronchi drop Quinton de Kock and then put down Hashim Amla himself off the bowling of Tim Southee. But Boult quickly dismissed both openers as New Zealand set the tone early on.

Flight path

- Fresh from his World Cup record score of 237 not out against the West Indies, New Zealand opener Martin Guptill made his first impression Tuesday with a diving, one-handed catch to get rid of Rossouw (39) off Corey Anderson.

Rock steady Du Plessis

Faf du Plessis took 85 balls to reach his 15th ODI fifty and then celebrated with a huge straight six off Henry.

Captain marvel

- AB de Villiers was dropped on 38 by Kane Williamson off Corey Anderson.

Moments later, the South African captain had raced to 50 off 32 balls before he went on to an undefeated 65.

Rain pain

- Two hours were lost to rain with South Africa flying on 216-3 after 38 overs. The Mmtch was then reduced to 43 overs a side. Du Plessis was dismissed soon after the resumption without adding to his score of 82.

Mighty Miller

- David Miller smashed an 18-ball 49 after the rain as New Zealand was set a Duckworth-Lewis target of 298 to win.
